Release Day 3

First a little talk and then the cards... they are related
My husband has been in the service for almost 10 years now.  We left California when our daughter was three and started on our adventure, sponsored by the Navy.  Our daughter is now 12 (almost 13 eeck) and our son just turned 8.  I know this makes no sense, but let me explain.  We have never been home for Thanksgiving since we first left California, because we have been stationed on the east coast.  So this year, we will drive to my Dad's house, he lives in N. California (9 hour drive) and my kids will actually get to be with their Papa on Thanksgiving.  A lot of military children spend their holidays without family near & sometimes their Dad or Mom who is in the service is deployed.  Most years we are alone, because Jess is out to sea or we adopt some single sailors so they can have a nice dinner & it makes it feel more homey with more people around.  So that is why this is so extra special, this will be the first time my children have spent Thanksgiving around family.  They also will get to meet their baby cousin who was born yesterday (my sister's first child).
Every year before we eat our Thanksgiving dinner, we take turns saying what we are grateful for.  So with keeping that tradition, the cards I'm showing today are for my children to write a letter to my Dad on why they are thankful for him.  We just found out this week we are moving back to Florida in January.  So I wanted a way for my Dad to remember this holiday, he keeps every card I send to him, and this just seemed perfect.

The frame of the cards is actually pretty simple, with minimal layers & simple stamping.  Subtle details can make a simple card very striking.  On both cards I added a scalloped border in a different color card stock on the bottom, it draws your eyes all the way down, that way you don't miss any details (and it just looks cool).  I also added satin ribbon to both, satin ribbon is so luscious, there is something special about it.  Ribbon is my thing, I love it, can't live without it.  I bet I could write a great country song about it LOL.

For this card I used the Figs and Pomegranate stamp set from Flourishes.  I stamped it right on the front of my card base and colored it in with some Copic markers.  I like to put a light shade of blue around my images, when I'm coloring, for some reason it just makes it pop.  I added satin & velvet ribbon, I thought I was crazy when I thought of using them both on the same card, but it just works.

Again with this card, I added the scalloped border at the bottom.  I used the Autumn Flourishes stamp set from Flourishes llc.  I stamped a flourish using Pumpkin Pie & More Mustard ink, then I stamped the sentiment on a ribbon label tag.  I think that is what they are called?  Flourishes sells them, they are made by Spellbinders.  I punched a hole in the panel and ran the ribbon through it, then popped  it up with dimmensionals.  I added a pearl to each side, to finish it off.
