Going Out of town & Blog Candy

Hey all, I am leaving {on a jet plane...}, to go up and visit family.  My Dad's side of the family is having a family reunion, and then on my Mom's side, my Aunt & Uncle are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary.  So its 1:20am and I am should be finishing up my packing but I'm blogging instead LOL.  The Anniversary Party is in a back room in a nice restaurant, so I am trying to pick out everyone's clothes.  I always overpack, I don't mean to, I just do & it really annoys my husband, but he just has to deal >"<.  I am not looking forward to driving through L.A. hopefully we will miss the morning traffic.  My favorite part about driving home is going over the Golden Gate Bridge, it means I'm really close and the drive is really pretty.   I am bringing the laptop, so if I go to a coffee shop that has wi-fi I will try to blog hop, but I can't promise. Be on the look out because when I get back, I am posting my first blog candy.  Its goin

PapertreyInk May Blog Hop

Image
Here is my card that I did for the May PapertreyInk's Blog hop.  You needed to use score lines somewhere on your card.  I really wanted to do "inchies" on the card so that is how I started.  I ended up using the dragonfly from Pond Life, I stamped them with Spring Moss ink.  The designer paper is by Cosmo Cricket and the inchies are layered on the dp, popped up with dimmensionals.  The yellow 5/8in grosgrain ribbon, helps bring the colors out on the dp and it the perfect embellishment for this card.  I scored two vertical lines down the Kraft paper, and then scored again horizontally on the top & bottom of the card to give it a finished look {& I needed to use score lines} These seemed like the visually best places to score.  This was a really simple card to make. Thanks for visiting...I off to blog hop >"<

Just Butterfly

I am enjoying my new stamps from Unity.  I think I am addicted to new rubbah lol.  I get something new, use it a bunch and then kind of forget about it.  I still have SU sets I havn't even mounted or inked up yet.  My new addiction is Copic markers, I love them.  I was very skeptical about them at first, but not anymore.  Here are a few reasons why I like them. 1. You lay down a base coat and its not dark enough you just go over your image again and it gets 1/2 shade darker. 2. You can color over different colors and you don't end up with brown. 3. Blender pen I could go on and on about them I only have 21 of them and I want more lol.  What I did was I went through and picked colors that I knew I was going to use the most.  I didn't like all of the colors in the "sets".  If you are on the fence about them buy a few in the same color family, to try them out.  It can be really confusing at first with the letter and the numbering system, but its really easy.  I don&#

Dragonfly flight

Image
I did the inspiration challenge over on SCS {IC129).  I knew I wanted to use my new Unity Stamps I just got in the mail, so I chose the dragonfly.  These are really big stamps, so if you order them...they seriously are big.  I was fiddling with the sketch a lot before I produced this.  It just looked so much better as a one layer card.  To give it dimmesion and texture, I used the cat tails and grass from PapertreyInk's Pond Life stamp set, the sentiment is from the same set. I really cannot do a card with out ribbon I don't think, so since this is going to a man, I used the hemp twine, which made me feel better >"<.   The card is going to one of our friends who just finished flight school, so the sentiment is really perfect in this case.  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Materials used: River Rock card stock, hemp twine, copic pens, tim holtz black soot ink, spring moss ink, chocolate chip ink, Unity Stamps, Papertrey Ink stamps

My pictures from my last post were terrible so I had to re-shoot them.  Who knew cards were such divas!

Sweet Flap card

Image
So I made my first flap card, it is actually an easy fold to do and you can get three of these cards from one sheet of 12x12 cardstock.  I got my directions from www.splitcoaststampers.com on the resource page.  I used Bazzill card stock for my base, and the designer paper is from Basic Grey's Sultry line.  I really like this May Arts ribbon, its has subtle polka dots and the edges are scalloped.  I have not been able to to make a bow I am happy with, but  it still makes a wow factor on a card.  The directions call to use a magnetic closure, but I don't have any of those.  So I attached a prima with a brad, and used that to keep the flap shut.  The bottom picture shows how the card looks opened. I used the Sweet Treats stamp set from Flourishes, you can make all different types of cupcakes with the set.  So I had a cupcake fest >"<  I colored the cupcakes in with copic pens and then I used a sakura glitter pen to make the icing look sparkly.  Even though I have never

Just because birthday card

Image
I needed to make a nice card for one of my Aunt's, her birthday is this weekend.  She is has more of a classic, timeless style so I don't do cutesy for her.  So I grabbed my new stamp set from Flourishes, called Lilac.  It has really pretty lilacs in it, but I chose to use the magnolia's that are also in the set.  This is actually 3 different stamps so its easy to create your own magnolia branch.  Magnolia's are typically white with grey and pink accents, so I stamped everything on kraft paper, and then colored in the stamp with a white inkssentials pen.  Once the ink dried I went over the white with grey and pink copics, and used a green copic for the leaves.  Because I stamped it on kraft paper the green ink absorbed differently so I had to go back in with a green & brown prisma colored pencil to add in highlights on the leaves.  The sentiment is on a scalloped oval circle cut out and embossed with a nestability, popped up with a dimmensional.  The ribbon is Purel

flourished anniversary

Flourishes is having a May contest over at www.splitcoaststampers.com you just need to make a card using ribbon and one of their stamps.  So easy peasy, no sketch to follow, just a card with ribbon.  I so wish I can find more of this May Arts wide ribbon.  I love it, it makes the perfect bows, I only have a little left so that makes me sad.  I paired it with apple colored May Arts ribbon, same stuff just smaller.  All of the stamps used are from Flourishes {Flourished Words, Siberian Iris & Flourished Elements}  The designer paper is the from the new Basic Grey Sultry line.  I cut the ovals out using scalloped nestabilities, and then ran the white paper through again to emboss it.  The card stock base is SU kraft paper. CA is about to have a heat wave this weekend, hopefully it doesn't get too bad here.  Where my inlaws live its supposed to be around 107 and I guess today its 95 degrees in San Fransisco, which is CRAZY.  So all of you ladies on the west coast try and stay cool

Swap

Image
This is my second card {made 8 of them} for the swap I am in that Alex is doing. Its a fairly easy card to make. Just a lot of punching out to do. I am not sure what the technique is called but its where you make a punch in the front of the card and then on the bottom of the cardstock {inside of card} you put something there where the hole is. Does this make sense? I cannot think lately. Anyhow, I put the piece of dp that I punched out on the inside and then stamped "happy" punched it out using a circle punch and then layered it on using a dimensional so it puffs up above the card. This is an all SU card. Can you tell I have a ton of Groovy Guava stuff lol... I was in a monochromatic mood. The dp is Afternoon Tea, I used Groovy Guava and Whisper White card stock and the ribbon is double stitched grosgrain ribbon, oh and the ink is Chocolate Chip. The card wasn't laying flat but you can kind of see how it looks laying down, then I put another picture of the inside

Snail Mail

I received some great snail mail this week that I have not posted yet.  So the first one, isn't it gorgeous!!  Its from my bff Chris, it was a thank you card, she is the best!  Do you see the little watermark on the bottom...I totally did that.  It takes some time, but I am slowly getting used to working with Elements 6.0.  Now I just need to figure out how to send the watermark to her, that will be a later lesson lol.  Chris I used the Trajan font...cuz you love PTI The next group of cards is from Tina, I met her during a PTI release on the forum.  She is from a tiny little town called Cloverdale, its in between where my mom and dad live in N. California.  Anyhow, she sent me all of these cards!  She made a few for my kids too, the color in kind so they can color them in with crayons or whatever.  Guess what...SHE DOES NOT HAVE A BLOG!  Tina get a blog girl lol.  Anyhow, she is a stampin up demo and just loves stamps in general.  Thank you Tina again!! I hope all of you had a great Mother's Day.  I went to the San Diego Zoo with my kids and husband.  It was overcast which worked in our benefit, because there were not very many tourists there.  There was not a wait for the Panda's, totally awesome because that line can get long!!  For those of you wondering why there is a picture of a wallet...it's my new Vera Bradley wallet which matches my new purse...I'm wearing it in the picture below.  Carol, Marlou & Alex that's for you >"<  The panda is Gao Gao{male} he was going to town on some bamboo.   Today is my husband's birthday so no cards today.  For a Mother's Day slash bday present we bought a MacBook, so I have a laptop now yay me lol.  I got Photoshop Elements 6.0 so once I figure it out I can make all of us professional looking watermarks, like all of the famous card makers have >"<  I hope all of you are having a great Monday!!  I so didn't want to get up this morning, I w

Mother's Day

Image
To all of you Mothers, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and a great Mother's Day! I had to make them simple because I had a few to send out this year, and well, simple is easier when you are making more than one. Plus I colored in the topiaries, and that took a while. The cardstock & ribbon are showing up way brighter in the picture, but its berry sorbet from Papertrey Ink. The sentiment and the image are both from the Siberian Iris stamp set from Flourishes I bought the set just for these topiaries. You can barely see it but there is kraft cardstock behind the stampers select white cardstock. The polka dotted satin ribbon is from PTI and the black ribbon is from May Arts. Do you ever try to out-do yourself? Don't get me wrong I love making a "WOW" factor card, but I really love simple cards. Not to mention you can close an envelope without taping it and adding extra postage. Totally off topic but can you believe they are raising the postage rates again!!

Kind swap

Image
I have four of these completely finished and then the other four are cut up, stamped and just need to be put together. They will go in the mail tomorrow off to Alex. Its an all SU swap. So everything you see can be found in the current Stampin Up catalog. Well I need to go finish putting my swaps together, so this will be a short post. Here is the recipe for this card: Live your dream stamp set Sweet shapes stamp set Baroque Motifs Wild Wasabi cardstock, whisper white cardstock Afternoon Tea designer paper Double stitched grograin ribbon, Purely Pomegranite & Chocolate Chip ink Scallop punch

Red Bull Air Races San Diego 2008

Image
So this weekend we went to the Red Bull air races {google it its cool} The air course was in the bay between Coronado Island and the SD Embarcadero. Since Jess is in the Navy we got to sit along the pier next to the USS Ronald Reagon { a newer Carrier} one word describes a carrier, massive! So if I looked to the left I saw the carrier and if I looked to my right I saw the air course and the planes. Beautiful view. Kendall and I got bored so we walked to the NEX to get snacks, but then we walk past the Vera Bradley purses and they had the new Seaside Collection. OMGoodness I was so happy, its new and very hard to find right now. So I bought the Port tote and the nautical wallet, I love them >"< I really want the hat that matches, which would be over kill , but I really don't care because it would be so freakin cute. Anyhow so this was Kendall and I still in a VB laughing fit walking back to the race area. She was telling me you always need to look cute and have
