My week in pictures

What a week it has been in the Yoast home!  It has been a wild ride of emotions for sure.  To start the week off on Monday, my children started the 9th & 4th grades.  Nothing screams "You are getting old Latisha!" more than your child entering High School.  So that was fun.  I so clearly remember being in High School and starting the 9th grade, so it is very weird when you realize your child has grown up overnight.  How does that happen?
Both of them are sad that summer is over, but so happy school has started.  They get to have their social lives back.  Here are a few snap shots I took of them on the first day of school.  They seem so happy to get their pictures taken ha!  They have been in school a while now, and should know the yearly ritual of Mom taking a bajillion-squillion pictures, basically a lot!

The next few pictures are not the best quality, they were taken with my iphone when it was starting to storm out side, and we were inside a not well lit ready room.  However, with that said thinking about this day and the pictures really could just make me cry.  Most of you know, my husband is in the Navy.  What I have not talked too much about this year, is that he is working up to a deployment.  Work ups, are probably one of the hardest aspects of a deployment.  Basically this year, he has been gone a lot.  We are talking gone 4-6 weeks then home for a week, just constant in and out, revolving door of Daddy/husband.  It is hard on all of us.
With that said, he has been gone for a few weeks now.  When he is out on the ship our only communication is by email, and recently he bought a phone card, but it is so expensive to call home ($3 to connect & 45 cents a minute!), so phone calls really do not happen.  I am unsure what to write next, (OPSEC basically security) but he came home for a brief 90 minutes.  Two helos came, 5 pilots and some aircrew, but what I can say is that around 10 children were extremely happy to see their Daddies!  My heart was full and ready to burst seeing all those happy faces.
We brought him take out from Chipotle and a coffee from Starbucks.  Then a few bags of goodies to bring back with him.  I had bought a few dozen doughnuts from Krispy Kreme, and Dunkin Donuts for him to bring back and share.  I was told they went fast!
It was nice to see my husband, I didn't realize how much I had missed him until he gave me a hug.  It was all I needed and will last me these last few weeks until he is home.
Here is a super cute picture, if you look closely at my son, you can tell how happy he is!  Pure bliss I tell ya!

Here is my daughter acting goofy while I took a picture of them (right)
On the left is my son, and our friends daughter.  They were holding onto the fence, that separated us from the flight line, watching their Dad's take off.  You can't tell because their backs are facing us in the picture, but when my son turned around, tears were streaming down his face.  So very heartbreaking.
But Daddy will be home soon, and our family will be whole again.

Tisha, great big hugs to you & the kids!! I got teary eyed reading about your boy at the end. Thank you for everything that your husband & your family sacrifice for us. I can only imagine how hard it is being away from each other. Hugs!! Vera.

Oh my gosh, those photos are so sweet :) I'm glad your family got a little quality time together (Krispy Kremes make everything better ;).

I'm also glad you found an example of calendar squares to show your friend! It is a small world that you found another Navy wife, who's husband flies - and who crafts! (My cards aren't nearly as beautiful as yours though!)

Have a great week!
Hey Latisha...surfing the papercrafts world I found your blog and just want to say we have so much in common. Kids the same gender/age...mine are exactly 1 year older; Navy family [P-3 Test Pilot, now out in the civilian world] and of course, love of papercrafting! You've no doubt been to A Small Cleverness...I miss that place! Wishing you as much time together before deployment as possible, and fair winds to your hubby as he departs and returns home! Go Navy!!!
oh, my friend...I know we have chatted about this but to see the pics again and to read your re-count of the last week just actually brought a little tear to my eye. In addition to the sacrifices our military make, the families-esp wives and children are something that I am so grateful for , too. it's not an easy job and definitely not easy w/ all the ups and downs. Thank you so much for doing it so gracefully and for sharing with us, too :) xoxo
