December release Day 1

Can you believe its that time of month again for a Flourishes release!!  Today I'm showing you a sneak of the Year of Flowers calendar set 1.  I chose to use the March Pansy.  Did you know you can eat the leaves and flowers of a pansy plant?!?  The flowers can be dipped in sugar to decorate cakes, or just wash the blossoms and use them to garnish soups and salads, or whatever.  One of my cousins wives, she makes cakes and on my bridal shower cake, she put pansies on it, boy was that cake beautiful and tasty.
Anyhow, onto the card.
I was inspired by this photo of this pansy (isn't it beautiful!)

I didn't color in my image exactly the same, I was just more inspired by the colors.  The really rich oranges, yellows and reddish pinks.  I colored the image on white card stock, then cut it out and adhered it to a kraft card base.  I'm trying (really trying) to make a complete set of cards with this months releases.  So there will be 12 cards, one for each month.  I plan on giving it away as a Christmas gift.  Normally I try and make cards bump free (no pins, buttons or heavy layers) so that the person doesn't have to add extra postage to send the card.  But its more fun to add pretties, it adds just that special touch.  The hat pins came clear, however I colored them with Copic markers to coordinate with the flowers.
For your chance to win this stamp set, head on over to the Flourishes Newsletter, they are having a one day only blog candy.

Pansies are so sentimental to me, as I remember them in my grandfather's garden. LOVE this one and can't wait to get my hands on it!
