Laura's Sketch #29: Special Friend Blend

Image
A new sketch is up over at 2sketches4you , this weeks sponsor is from Score-it.  I wanted to do something a little different with my American Crafts designer paper, so I took out my Mini Score-it and made score lines every 1/4 inch, vertically and horizontally on my paper, this made a really cool grid pattern.  On my ivory card stock, I also used my mini Score-it to score lines above and below my scalloped border.  Little details like scoring make a card look polished.  The image is from Unity Stamp Co & the sentiment is from Papertrey ink. "special friend blend" My image was colored in using Copic markers, if you head on over to the Flourishes Newsletter there is a tutorial up on coloring with these markers.

Friday Focus using solid image stamps

Image
The ever fabulous Leslie challenged us to make a card using solid image stamps this week for the Flourishes Friday Focus .  When using solid image stamps or silhouettes, you pick your image, color of ink, then start stamping, its as simple as that.  I believe that is why so many people are attracted to that style of stamp, they are easy to use. For my card, I stamped the poppy image from Summer Botanicals in red ink, then took the dragonfly image from the Summer Blossoms set and stamped it in black ink, onto some Cosmo Cricket Dutch Girl designer paper.  Before adhering my designer paper onto the black card stock, using a distressing tool I distressed the edges of the paper.  To take the card to the next level, I used some lovely red/cream gingham ribbon and attached a tag and button to the center of the bow. "thank you" Head on over to the Flourishes Newsletter to see Leslie's tutorial then, take a blog hop to check out what the design team has created. Christine Okk

Here is my card for the Unity addicts challenge, to make a card using red, white & blue. I was in a clean and simple kind of mood, you don't need lots of layers and embellishments to make a cute card. I colored in the tricycle using copic marker R27 & R29, I did my shadows using C1, for the blue I used a heart shaped blue button by Making Memories, and tied some twine through it. The image and sentiment are both from Unity Stamp Co. "smile"

Just Rite Monogrammed Notebooks

Image
I should be moving stuff right now, but I took a break and made some of these cute little notebooks.  I'm going to an untraditional baby shower on Saturday, some of the spouses in my husbands squadron are having a tea for one of the wives.  We will have tea and eat some yummy scones, salad, quiche and dessert, so I don't think any of the quirky baby games will be had, so I am making all of the ladies attending one of these notebooks, I'm not done yet, but I have until Saturday.  I'm using some of my Just Rite monogram stamps and borders, which is making these so much easier!  I stamp the image, cut and emboss them using my Nestabilities and then color in the center using Copic markers.  This is an excellent way to use up some scraps.  From left to right here is the paper I used: Crate, K & Company, Cosmo Cricket & Making Memories. I hope you all are having a wonderful day!  I'm off to the post office ttyl latisha Monogrammed Notebooks

Kazan's Sketch #29

Image
Kazan's Sketch #29 The flower on my card, is an image from Starving Artistamps, which happens to be this weeks sponsor over at 2sketches4you .  I stamped the image in Memento ink, colored it in using Copic markers, then cut it out and set it aside.  Using my mini Score-it, I scored all 4 sides of my card.  The two strips of designer paper are from Teresa Collins (love that stuff!).  I ran some ribbon around the card, tied a bow and then attached a button using some natural twine.  The circles were cut and embossed using circle Spellbinder Nestability dies.  I then attached my flower and added the "hi" using felt thickers. "hi" i hope you have a wonderful Monday!!

update

Most of the big stuff is moved over to the new place, still lots of little things to move.  The cable guy/girl hooked up phone, internet and cable yesterday and now today it does not work.  So hopefully they will have someone to our place soon.  Looks like Panera Bread will be seeing me lol.  Its 102 here today (not including the humidity)...off to eat some food and move more things over. Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's out there!! hugs, latisha

a few cards

Image
Hey there!  Here are a few cards that I made for the Flourishes release last week, that I have not posted on my blog yet.  The first one uses the Patriotism on Parade set, with some fun Jenni Bowlin paper, then the second one I used the Lemons, Love, Life set, I colored in the lemons using copic markers. Hubby came home on Monday and we are trying to move but the elevator broke in our building and its not going to be fixed for 2 more days, and its in the high 90's here.  Not looking forward to the next few days, but thats life, just going to roll with the punches.  I hope you are having a wonderful day today!! Laura's Sketch #28

Image
Its Monday, that means a new sketch is posted over at 2sketches4you .  This week the sponsor is ClearSnap stamps.  I got to use a jumbo rollagraph, which had different mittens on the roller and warm winter wishes at the top.  So I rolled it onto some white card stock, and cut out a couple of my favorite mittens, also the sentiment.  It was hard at first to get into a Christmas spirit, especially since its hot here, well its June in Florida, if you have never been to the south in the summer then you have know idea what hot means lol.  Anyhow, I digress, the glitter on the mittens in from Sulyn Industries , they sell really awesome glitter glue, glitter, all sorts of sparkly stuff, go check them out.  Also, did you see that the top 20 was posted yesterday, for the Ultimate Card Showdown?  It is so hard judging all of those cards, they are all so beautiful! On a side note, my husband comes home today, we are all so excited, 30 days is a long time, but he is in the Navy, he leaves, thats

June Release Day #3: Patriotism on Parade

Image
We know many see the Fourth of July as a day of celebration to honor the United State's independence. But, as many military men and women will tell you - Freedom is not free. In times of war, soldiers come home wounded and are in need of a hand up in life. Having deep ties to our country's military, Flourishes wanted to be a part of the solution. We are proudly donating a portion of the proceeds of our brand new Patriotism on Parade set to the Wounded Warrior Project. It's a not for profit, who's mission is to honor and empower wounded warriors. We believe in the work they do and we can't wait to support this group's amazing efforts. Please click on  www.woundedwarriorproject.org  to learn more.  With my own husband being in the military, it really warms my soul to know there are such great organizations, like this one, who really make a difference. Here is a layout, from when we toured the US Coast Guard Tall Ship called the Eagle, I used the new Patriotism on

June Release Day #2: Love Life

Image
Day #2, and today I'm showing you a card I make using the Life, Love, Lemons set from Flourishes .  This set screams summer, and has the cutest images!  I stamped a lemon tree, lemon wedge and lemon slice, then colored them in using Copic markers (Flourishes will be carrying them very soon!!).  Have you checked out the lace that Flourishes sells? Seriously, its hard for me to make a card without it...I so love it!  To brighten up the card & to add contrast I used some satin pink ribbon, then attached a button using twine.  For your chance to win this set, head on over to the Flourishes Newsletter , to enter! Right now even with my hubby gone, I just love life!  The kids and I went to see Up, then went on a 4 mile bike ride.  It was so hot out, and neither one of them complained.  It felt like I was in a movie, the sidewalks are around 8-9 ft wide, there were couples out walking, all of them said "hello" as we passed, one older couple even commented on what a beautiful

June Release Day #1: Water Lily Birthday

Image
Its that time of the month again, Flourishes is having a release on Friday.  Today I'm showing you a card that I made using Water Lilies and Koi (being released Friday).  For a chance to win this set for one day only blog candy, head on over to the Flourishes Newsletter ...plus info about the release party. I stamped the water lily twice and colored it in using Copic markers, then layered them using foam tape.  The paper is some of my scraps, but I'm pretty positive its Prima.  For some contrast, I added some aqua colored satin ribbon, and pewter colored pearls.  The sentiment is from the Sweet Violets set.  A few days ago was Marcella Hawley's Birthday (one of Flourishes stamp designers)  so this pretty little thing is on its way to her home. "Water Lily Birthday" Make sure you take a little blog hop to check out all of the wonderful creations using this set. Image
Kazan's Sketch #28 Is this not a wonderful sketch or what!!  Well if you did not make it into the top 30, do not fret, you still have a chance at winning a lovely prize package from Sakura of America, this week.  Just make a card using this sketch...for more details, head on over to the 2sketches4you blog.  Also go, to check out the rest of the design's teams amazing cards!!  I used some Teresa Collins pre cut paper die (card and envie set), what I love is how the inside is decorated!!  Love that!!   The crown and 'its a boy" sentiment were also on the same sheet of 12x12 paper that the envelope and card die cuts came on.  On the heart I used a Sakura White Jelly roll pen, to do the white dashes, and then on the crown I colored over the crown using a Sakura Glitter pen.  Its hard to see in the pictures, but boy is that crown sparkly!!!  For some contrast, I used some green satin ribbon, to give the card that extra pop.  When using pastels, I like to add something brig

Just Because

Image
Sorry for the late post, but yesterday I was judging and leaving comments on the 400+ cards over at 2sketches4you , I had to narrow my choices to 30, and boy was that hard!  So no card making for me yesterday, but I did get a box from PTI.  I have wanted the Damask set ever since I laid eyes on it, so now I finally have it (I picked up the star prints one too & ribbon and buttons).  I have lots of "just because" cards to send out, and I love how this turned out.  I don't make two of the same card very often, but this may be an exception. It has not stopped raining in my neck of the woods, which makes it really hard to move.  Oh well, so is life, it will get done eventually lol.  I hope you have a wonderful Sunday!  I can't wait to see who made it into the top 30 tomorrow!  So exciting! "just because" **Edited** The top 30 has been posted Congratulations to all of you!! Seriously there were so many talented card makers who entered, you are all fabulous!

ramblings and a card

Image
Hi there bloggers.  My day is starting off awful, I'm extremely allergic to our dog and I have had the worst hives for a couple of days now.  I'm completely miserable, and its starting to really wear on me.  Plus factor in that today in mine and my husbands anniversary (and he is gone out to sea) and I'm trying to move our crap alone.  Its a little more than my nerves and stress level can handle right now.  I really needed to make a card to try and lift my spirits, so I grabbed this stamp from Unity.  At least I created something, when I'm being creative I kind of zone everything out, its very relaxing.  Plus I got to have a break from packing stuff lol.  Sorry to be complaining, I really hate to, but I don't have a lot of people to talk to, so writing this out is helping me deal with it all.  Well, i think I'm going to make myself a cup of tea. Have a wonderful day. hugs latisha "happiness"

Laura's Sketch #27 & the Ultimate Card Showdown

Image
This weeks sponsor over at 2sketches4you is Zutter, so I decided to get my bind-it-all machine out, and make myself a cute sketchbook, using Laura's sketch #27 (this weeks sketch).  Since this book is for me, I used some of my favorite paper, ribbon and buttons.  This book just makes me happy.  Instead of putting regular cardstock on the inside, I dug through my daughter's math supplies and found graph paper, that I cut down to size to fill inside my book.  I have a few sketches in it so far, and having the graph paper makes it so easy to create.  The cover is chipboard b.i.a. covers from Theresa Collins, I covered the front using Cosmo Cricket Girl Friday designer paper.   Now you do not want to miss playing along in this weeks sketch challenge, it is the kick off to the Ultimate Card Showdown and you do not want to miss this opportunity to win all of those fabulous prizes!  Head on over to the 2sketches4you blog to find out all of the important details.
