For paper crafters, this is always such an exciting time of year. With CHA wrapping up, I can't wait for my favorite stores to be filled with new product. Not that there is anything wrong with "older" stuff, but there is something about the newness of something that brings a freshness to projects I make.

For this card, I used the February stamp set from Avocado Arts called Wishes and Kind Thoughts. I stamped the sentiment onto the Pebbles chipboard, then stamped, colored in, and cut out the flower (popped up with foam tape). It was just luck, how the stamped flower matched perfectly to the flower chipboard. The embossed background was created, by running card stock through my Grand Calibur, inside a new M-bossabilites folder.

Revisiting a few Lawn Fawn sets

While I was cleaning my craft area, I decided to make a few cards, with the supplies that were out. They are one stamp to mail kind of cards. I used Lawn Fawn stamps on both cards, and snuck in a little bit of the Bright Side 6x6 pattern paper, on the first one. On the second card, I colored in the balloons with Copic markers, in shades of orange and red. Red is a good birthday color (to me anyhow).

It was nice to use these stamp sets, I'm sure they were feeling a little neglected. Revisiting older sets, sometimes makes them feel new again.

Happy Monday! Monday's are so hard for me, to start moving after a relaxing weekend. But, here we are, so I guess I will start it with a pretty card.

I did a little die cutting, some stamping, a little coloring and paper piecing...and of course a pretty bow. The image and sentiment, are both from the March stamp set from Avocado Arts, called Wishes and Kind Thoughts.

My Stud Muffin

Here is a fun card, perfect for the stud muffin in your life (ha ha ha), that sentiment and image combined gives me serious giggles. I'm thinking, I might leave it in my husbands car one day, so he will find it on his way to work. Something cute like that, would make is day a little better.

For this card I used a few different Lawn Fawn stamp sets, Love n' Breakfast and Bannerific. I really like the layout of this card, it would be really easy to change out the image and sentiment.

Hugs, Hugs, Hugs

Happy Sunday folks. I hope you are bundled up and keeping warm today. I know down here in Florida the temperatures have dropped a little...more like a lot, but it is a nice excuse to go to Starbucks lol.

Anyhow, today I am showing you a fun card, clean just the way I like it, with a little pop of color. I have a few friends who don't live anywhere near me, but I wish I could give them a big ole hug...that is where the inspiration came from when I was making this card. The image and sentiments are both from Avocado Arts. The cute little owl is a sneak from the February set called, Wishes and Kind Thoughts. It is hard to see in this picture, but I added Glossy Accents to the glasses (too stinking cute). Glossy Accents is a cool liquid adhesive, that when used alone, when it dries it can resemble glass...cool stuff.

Today, I am going to share with you how I made this quick and easy mini book.

First, I started by gathering my supplies. Bazzill cardstock, pattern paper, KaiserCraft stickers, Beacon Adhesives, Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L foam squares and tape runner, Pictures, Spellbinders Die Templates, Spellbinders Grand Calibur®, ribbon and button.

To create the cover, place the die templates blade side down onto the cardstock on the cutting plate. To ensure the dies did not move during this process, I used a low tack tape (painters tape). The cardstock is ready to be cut.

Once the diecuts are cut out, run through the Grand Cailbur® Die Cutting and Embossing machine once more to emboss. Using the A Base plate, dies with paper attached (blade side up),Tan Embossing Mat and B Embossing Plate, run through the Spellbinders Grand Calibur Machine. (This is the sandwich to emboss)

Now, that the paper is cut and embossed, it is time to adhere it together. Take the Zip Dry adhesive and liberally spread it over the back side of the patterned paper, then place it in the center of the orange card stock.

Apply foam tape to the white die cut.

Apply to the pattern paper.

Cut/emboss picture using die template #2 from the Splendid Circles set. Again, I used painters tape to keep the die in place.

Apply die cuts to the front, and add letter stickers to create a title. To create depth, add foam tape to die cuts.

Use larger pictures to create the inside pages.

Apply adhesive to the backside of the cover.

Adhere picture to the cover.

Keep repeating these steps, until your mini book has enough pages. Once you are finished, bind the pages using a D-ring, and add ribbon to decorate (if you want).

Completed project:

For a second project, I created a tag that is ready to be used on a gift, gift bag, or even on a card.

Personalized Envelopes

I had every intention on getting my New Years photo cards out already, but I have not. I'm still working on the envelopes. It is funny how I simplify things by getting photo cards made, but make the process so much harder by decorating the envelopes lol. I had stamped and personalized a few envelopes for the Christmas cards I handed out (there were only a few...) and I thought it was so much fun and cute to decorate them, that I decided to do it again. I love personalizing things for my friends.

It is very simple and easy to do, you just have to be careful because the paper that envelopes are made out of is really thin. So if you color on them with copics (like I did) have a very light touch because the ink wants to spread. I also put a sheet of paper on the inside, so the ink wouldn't bleed through the entire envelope.

Now all I need to do, is address these, put a stamp on them and drive 30 minutes to the nearest post office lol.

Wow! Today is January 1, 2012...the first day of the new year. I wish you all a blessed year, filled with love, good health and happy memories. As my children get older, I get really sentimental as each year passes, I kind of wish I could freeze time. I never really knew what people meant, when they would tell me to enjoy my children being little because times goes by so quick. Now that they are older, I totally get it.

One thing that I learned in 2011, was how much my girlfriends mean to me. Most, don't even live close to me, but the way they uplift and encourage me, one would think they were sitting right next to me. There were many lessons and experiences that I will take with me from 2011, but I am excited for what 2012 holds. I hope this new year is great for all of us!

Before I get way off topic lol...I will share my card with you.

The Avocado Arts design team, are posting projects made with the Sweet Treat Sweetie set today. For this card, I knew I wanted it to be clean, and tone on tone. I started out using a really pale green, but as I got further into the design process, I switched gears and went to a winter white card stock. The cup of tea was colored in using Copic markers (r20, r27, r29, e33, e57, c0, c01, c03).

Sweet Treat Sweetie tag and envelope set

Here is a fun tag and matching envelope set I created, using the January stamp set from Avocado Arts called, Sweet Treat Sweetie. I even snuck in some chevrons from the October set...I really like how the envelope liner turned out (I stamped it in Versamark ink). Did you know Avocado Arts has digi files that coordinate with the stamp sets? Well they do! I was able to cut out that little thermometer out on my Cameo, then stamp my image onto it. If you have a Cricut, Cameo, Robocraft or any other digital cutter and hate fussy cutting around your stamped images, then you might want to consider getting the digi files along with your stamp set.

Cute photo sleeve

This holiday season, I took a lot of pictures...probably too many. Now that my pictures are developed, I wanted to make a cute photo sleeve to put the pictures in. It makes for nice presentation when I give them away, and keeps them safe from finger prints.

For this project, I used American Crafts pattern paper, Bazzill card stock, Lawn Fawn stamps, Scor tape, and ribbon...I also used a Cameo to cut out the shapes. Here are a few pictures to help describe how I made this project.

Now that Christmas is over, it is time to give a few, "thank you" cards. I like this layout, it would be easy to produce a few cards like it without getting overwhelmed. Most likely I will change the colors up, so that it flows better. I think if that green strip of pattern paper was more blue, it would have complimented the red and yellow better...hindsight is 20-20 right?

It is always nice to have extra "thank you" cards on hand, so this week, I plan on making a bunch.

For this card, I used what was out and in front of me...yellow card stock, American Crafts pattern paper, Lawn Fawn stamps and a chipboard coaster (that I die cut out). I have a huge scrap mess to clean up, so a few cards made from left over scraps are in order.

Just a quick little post to say hello, and hope you all are having a wonderful holiday season with your families. We enjoyed a nice Christmas yesterday. It consisted of, sleeping in, eating, going to the movies and eating some more. It was perfect.

While we were together as a family, there are many military members who were away from theirs. So, I thank them for their service. If you have a minute during this festive time of year, say a little prayer for those deployed. Being away from the ones you love the most at Christmastime, is unbearably sad.

Here is a little card dedicated to all of the heroes out there.

Avocado Arts: Happy Birthday

It is the 15th of the month, that means I get to show a sneak peak of the January stamp set from Avocado Art called Sweet Treat Sweetie. It has everything you would need to make, from Birthday to Valentine's Day, and I Love You cards.

The Happy Birthday sentiment really stood out to me, so I knew I wanted to make a birthday card. I chose to use the candle stamp to accompany the sentiment (if candles are not your thing, there is a cute cupcake to use instead). At first I was going to stamp them onto the kraft card base, but it looked a little plain, or maybe my design was all wrong...or both lol. So I stamped them onto ivory card stock and die cut it out using a Spellbinders die template. The hearts in the corners are from the December set. The die cut is popped up with foam tape, and the bakers twine I believe is from the Twinery.

Simple recipe for card:
1. Cut/score card stock.
2. Stamp hearts in red ink in top opposing corners.
3. Tie twine around card front into bows.
4. Die cut ivory card stock.
5. Stamp images (color in with copics) and sentiment with black ink.
6. Adhere diecut to card using foam tape.

Lawn Fawn & Glue Arts

Lawn Fawn is having a product swap with Glue Arts Adhesives this week. Designers from both companies will be sharing their projects everyday with you.

Today, I am sharing a bright and happy Get Well Soon card. With it being winter, and prime time for cold/flu season, I need to have a stash of these cards ready to give out. After I die cut card stock using a Spellbinders die template, I stamped a few images from the On The Mend stamp set. While I was deciding how to color in my images, I got started on the card base. The green polka dotted card stock is from Bo Bunny (it seriously is one of my staples), and I adhered the American Crafts pattern paper to the card base using Glue Arts adhesive. To have a little bit of contrast between the two bright papers, I added a little piece of kraft card stock. I added some silk May Arts ribbon, and rounded the bottom corner. Once the card base was done, I just grabbed a few Copic markers that seemed to coordinate with the pattern paper (it is easier to match that way). After I was done coloring in the image, I stamped the sentiment and adhered the label to the card using the Glue Arts U CUT IT, 3D foam (Its a big square, and you just cut off what you need).

Love n Breakfast day 2

Today, I am sneaking another card using the Love n Breakfast set from Lawn Fawn. I just wanted to make a bright, happy card.

I started by stamping a background onto the card stock, by stamping a row of cups, then hearts in versa mark ink. The tray was stamped onto white card stock in memento ink, colored in with Copic markers, cut out with scissors and adhered to the card using foam tape. I originally was going to stamp the image and then die cut it with a shape, but it just didn't look right...so I went to plan "b", which was fussy cutting it out. The image was stamped onto white card stock, and then adhered to the card. I think it helps ground the card a little bit. If I had just stamped the sentiment directly onto the green card stock, the image might look like its floating. I rounded the bottom corners, added some bling and now I have this super happy card to give away :)

Lawn Fawn: Love n Breakfast

Today and tomorrow, the Lawn Fawn design team will be showcasing a brand new stamp set called Love n Breakfast. If you are like me, and love smiley faces on toasters, muffins, toast, salt & pepper shakers and giggle over "punny" sentiments, then you are going to LOVE this set.

I mean seriously. Look at the smiley face on the toaster and toast! Pure happiness right there.

I used the CPS sketch 247 for my layout (switched it a teensy), so it made making this card super easy. The toaster and toast, are colored in using Copic markers, and the pattern paper is by My Minds Eye. Is it just me, or is their paper lines getting better and better? The trim, is actually this suede feeling ribbon from May Arts. I think I may have found the perfect ribbon to put on a masculine card, other than twine.

Warm the heart

Wow, December 1st?? How is it that every year I get older, time goes by so fast? As a child it seemed as though time stood still. I find it to be crazy its December, at least I am pretty much done with Christmas shopping, but I do need to work on my Christmas cards. I don't really have a plan for those yet...I will probably pull out some stamps, holiday papers and stickers and make a grand mess, but it will be fun.

Speaking of Christmas cards, here is a fun little ditty that I made the other day. I used the December Avocado Arts stamp set. I plan on sending this out for the holidays, but if I changed out that green strip of paper, it could easily be a general winter card, or even a Valentine's Day card.

Snow much nerdy peeps

I have noticed something lately. I am using red, kraft & stickles a whole lot. I just can't help it, it's helping me get into the holiday spirit. I kinda, sorta, really like snowmen this year too?!? They are just so cute!

Today, I am showing a fun holiday card using the December stamp set from Avocado Arts. It has a few different snowmen to build, some snowflakes, cute sentiments and a sled (I know I'm forgetting something else, so I apologize in advance).

To make this card, I stamped the sled in versa mark ink, onto the kraft card base. While that was drying I cut/embossed card stock, using the Bracket Edgabilities from Spellbinders. Before adhering the two pieces together, I stamped snowflakes & the sentiment (I added stickles to the center of the snowflakes). The snowman was paper pieced together on separate card stock, then adhered with foam tape. I adhered the pieces together, and then to the card front. I was going to add twine or something, but I saw these Zva crystals I have been hoarding, which seems like forever. I'm done with hoarding my stuff, so I slapped that swirl right on my card without even thinking twice about it (I lie, I thought about it lol). I kind of wanted to round the corners, but the crystals were blocking the way...hindsight is always 20/20.

Lawn Fawn & May Arts day 2

This week the Lawn Fawn is teaming up with May Arts ribbon. Everyday a couple of designers will bring you a fun project. I created a few Christmas tags, using Lawn Fawn stamps and of course some pretty trims from May Arts. The candy canes, I plan on putting on a bag or a gift, it is a cheap way to add a little holiday spirit to a gift. On one of the tags, I used this silvery, sparkly trim, it almost feels like tinsel (its really cool!), and then on the other candy cane I used the ultra thin silk ribbon, which is so lush. It is so soft, and really ties the prettiest bows. On the biggest tag, the trim I used almost feels like yarn (really soft & thick). It reminds me of bakers twine but super soft and fluffy. Except for the silk ribbon, I had never used the other two trims before. When I first opened the box of ribbon/trims that were sent to me, I honestly didn't think I would like the silvery trim, but I'm a fan now. I'm thinking of a few ways to use it on some holiday cards.

Happy Thanksgiving & a fun holiday card and tag

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my American Friends. Today, I will enjoy having my children and husband home with me. Just us four, relaxing, eating, watching tv. It's the little things that make me happy. Later tonight, we will have a small dinner. A Smithfield honey spiral ham, mashed potatoes, sage sausage stuffing, rolls, glazed carrots, steamed asparagus, canned cranberry sauce (request from my husband lol...he likes the canned stuff better than fresh), then pumpkin and apple pie for dessert.

I try to count my blessing all year long, but today I have been filled to the brim with all that I am thankful for. I hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with blessings. I plan on getting my craft on a little later! It is time to start on holiday cards, tags and presents!

I originally was planning on using both of these as tags, but I thought the snowman and the bird label, would look great on a card.

I love, love, love to make tags! Just grab some scrap cardstock, the pieces that are too small for a card, some of your favorite die templates, holiday stamps and maybe copics and stickles. One cannot have too much glitter around the holidays.

When you give a gift, it just makes the gift so much more meaningful when it is given with a homemade card and tag. The recipient feels special. I like making people feel good, even if it is through a card. Sometimes, that is all I have to give. As much as I would love to, we just don't have the money to buy gifts for everyone we love. So a pretty card will do.

For my card base, I used the S4-341 Wavy Rectangle dies that was introduced yesterday. I then cut/embossed the Scalloped Hem Dress die. To create the pattern on the dress, I used the E8-004 Classic Ric Rac Edgabilities die template to cut out strips of pattern paper. I laid the strips onto the dress, glued them down and trimmed off the excess. For the center beading, I used some black Want2Scrap rhinestones. The sentiment is from the Big Day Essentials stamp set from Waltzingmouse Stamps. The dress didn't look quite right adhered directly to the card front, so I popped it up with foam tape, to give the card a little more dimension.

Holiday Hello with the Nerdy Snow Peeps

Today, I get to sneak the December stamp set from Avocado Arts called, Brr! and the Nerdy Snow Peeps (isn't that the coolest stamp name?). I also mixed in a little bit of the Bring on the Holiday Cheer set too (the sentiment & the grass).

I stamped the snowflakes with Versamark onto the kraft card stock, adhered a strip of red card stock, and then stamped the leaves aka mistletoe in green ink above the strip. Next, I created a circle die cut using a Classic Circle Nestabilities, and created a little snow man scene. The scarf and hat are popped up with dimensionals, to give the snowman a little depth. The scarf was colored in with Copics (r24, r27, r29, & r39), and the hat was colored in using red & green Stickles. To get the sentiment rounded, I placed the stamp onto my clear block, and curve the stamp until I liked the angle.

I decided to create a Personalized Christmas Wish list. The sheet is 5x7 inches, and I used several stamp sets to create it, School House Backdrops, Sally's ABC's, Cozy Christmas and Critter's in the Forrest. To get the ledger look, I used a notebook punch along the side.

Have a Fawny Holiday, Day 2

This week, the Lawn Fawn design team will be showcasing all of the great holiday stamp sets. So make sure you visit the Lawn Fawn blog every day, to check out new and fun inspiration to get you ready to creating holiday cards, tags, gifts and more!

Today, I am showing a fun little gift box I made using the Winter Fox stamp set (and a Spellbinders box template). The glitter cardstock, is a nice thick cardstock perfect for this project and it is made by American Crafts, it comes in a ton of different colors, but I chose a red/green holiday combo. After I stamped the fox, I colored her in with Copic markers. The scarf, cup and tail were all colored in using red, green & clear stickles. For those of you unfamiliar with stickles, it is a glitter glue manufactured by Ranger (very easy to use too). To get the fox to stand up on the box, I created a little square/cube, by scoring cardstock and glueing it together. Then adhering it to the back of the fox, then the box. I stamped the sentiment, cut it out into strips and adhered them to the front, then finished it off by adding a few red rhinestones.

Hello there, here is a layout I made as a guest for Nichol Magouirk's November Stamping Scrapbooking Class, over at Two Peas. The theme for November is paper piecing. I paper pieced the banners, the ribbon thing in the corner and the polaroid pictures. I used Lawn Fawn stamps for all of my stamping. The Amy Tangerine line for American Crafts, worked so perfect for this layout. It's of Kendall at her locker this year. Last year she had a bottom locker and hated it, so when she found out she had a top one, she was most excited.

Holiday Cheer

Happy November 1st! It seems so crazy to think in just a few weeks it will be Thanksgiving, next month is Christmas and next week my boy will be eleven. This year has gone by quick like!

Well, I have another Avocado Arts project share to show you today. I decorated a Maya Road envelope, it is a little on the smaller side, so I think this is the perfect size for a gift card. My daughter who is 15, really enjoys getting gift cards, so I will need to have a few gift card holders on stand by, ready to use.

I started by glueing down the burlap using fabritac, it's a strong liquid glue. I then paper pieced the Christmas trees, and adhered them to the envelope. I stamped the sentiment, then hand cut it out, an adhered it using a foam square adhesive. To finish the gift card holder off, I stamped a star, adhered it to the top and added a few black rhinestones. This was very quick and easy, and I can see myself using the same sketch for a card.

Happy Halloween!

In my house, today it is going to be crazy busy! Early dismissal, then an after school dance (his first one) for the boy, soccer scrimmage for the girl, dinner, errands, and then taking the boy trick or treating. Somewhere in there, I am going to run to Starbucks, because this mama doesn't have time to get tired lol. I hope you have a fun and festive day today!

A few Lawn Fawn cards.

It is starting to feel like fall here. The mornings are crisp and the sun is going down a few hours earlier and Pumpkin Spice lattes are available (my favorite drink at Starbucks). I really wish I had more hours in the day to create, spend more time on learning photography and blogging more often. Actually, that is kind of not true. Right now, I love doing all of those things, but I love being a Mother more. So I only create a few days a week when they are at school. I'm perfectly okay with that.

Here are a few Lawn Fawn cards I made this past week. The first one is is for sketch 240 over at Card Positioning Systems. I used the On the Mend stamp set, the little smiley faces on everything seriously make me so happy. I mean a cup of soup and bandaids with smiley faces...adorable! With cold/flu season coming up, I'm sure this will not be in my card basket for very long.

This next card, is a project I did for the A-Z Stamping over at Two Peas in a Bucket. This was for the day for "L". The things I used for L were, Lawn Fawn stamps, a Spellbinders Label, and I did some layering. A-Z stamping is still going on, so head on over and check it out. I paper pieced the pumpkin and leaves from the Harvest Season set, and created the sentiment using Harold's ABC's.

Here is my project that I made for today's blog hop. I paired stamps from the Unity Blossom Stackers with the Spellbinders Blossom Tags & Accents. The Blossom Stackers stamp set, is a HUGE set, so it took a little bit to have my OCD mind settle on one theme/idea. What I really am drawn to about this set, it how it works for both scrapbookers & stamper/card makers. Now add all that awesomeness to the fact that there are dies that perfectly coordinate...perfection!

I am not talented enough to mix lots of pattern paper together, as much as I would love to have that talent, it just isn't my forte. So, I new this would be layered, but clean looking. I didn't do anything too fancy, I stamped, I die cut, then layered the pieces with foam tape. These sets are that easy.

Autumn Blessings

Today, I am showing a sneak of the Ho Ho's and Holiday Blessings stamps set along with the Bring on the Holiday Cheer set (available Nov. 1st). I love the tree silhouette. Do you ever just fall in love with a particular image from a stamp set and can see yourself using it over and over again? That is how I feel about the tree image. Kinda super love it :)

For my card, I just did some basic stamping, and then paper pieced the cute little bird (colored with copics). Nothing too fancy, just card stock, ink and pretty bakers twine...basics of stamping.

Swimming for Katie

I am very honored and humbled to be a part of this fundraiser for Katie. What I can say about Katie is, she is living each day with as much courage, bravery and honesty as someone could possibly have. As a woman and mother, I very much so relate to her. I don't know what it is like to walk one step in her shoes, but I choose to support her every step of the way.

From October 10-12 some of the best stampers are joining together to support and encourage our friend and fellow stamper, Katie Renz, who is currently battling inoperable gastric cancer. If you're not familiar with her, Katie’s cancer story started just before Christmas last year. This young, beautiful, healthy, vibrant mother of 3 with her infectious smile was suddenly diagnosed with an inoperable cancer, virtually overnight. A few tummy aches and then stage 4 gastric cancer. Her first post about it is here. The idea of “Swimming for Katie” came from her recent post here.

This exclusive stamp used in my sample, designed by Becky Oehlers is available as a clear stamp, as well as a digis or a dig and SVG cut file. 100% of the profits go to Katie's fund to help her and her young family. My Cup of Tea

One of my little secret about me (or not so secret) is that I love going out for Afternoon Tea. Anytime, I travel to a new town, I always check out the tea shops. It is just something that comforts me, plus they are so girly and feminine...a perfect place to relax with a nice cup of tea, delicious food and great friends.

The My Cup of Tea set from Lawn Fawn, is a cute little mini set that has a couple of sentiments and great tea images. For my card, I knew I wanted to use brown and pink with ivory. Those colors together are just really nice together. I created a background using the spoons, then stamped the tea bags and tea pot onto a die cut, then added a few buttons and twine to finish it off. To soften the card up a little more, I distressed the edges with pink ink.

As a cardmaker/scrapbooker and someone who just likes to craft, one thing I absolutely love to have an abundance of, is alphabets. I love personalizing projects with a name or sentiment, so when we were given this stamp set (Sally's ABC's), I was most excited. This set is the perfect mix of elegance & whimsy, so I decided to make a pretty gift bag for a bride.

I originally had my project as just a tag, but the more I looked at it, it needed something else. So I stamped the bells from Happily Ever After in orange onto a lighter orange color (I was trying to match the pattern paper in the tag) and applied it to a kraft bag. Then I adhered the tag with foam tape to the bag.

I should of made a cute little set of cards to go with the bag, but hindsight is 20/20 right? Thank You cards would be a perfect gift for that new bride.

Did you know Florida can have a Nor-Easter? I didn't either, but apparently we are having one. It has been raining all weekend (not that I mind it), and it has really put me into a fall mood. I'm not quite ready for winter, so I will still enjoy the warmish crisp weather.

Here is a card using the Winter Fox stamp set from Lawn Fawn. I kind of like to just make a card out of card stock, and create my own pattern. Pattern paper can be hard for me to use sometimes. So, its easier to make my own. I repeatedly stamped the sentiment in a green ink, for a tone on tone effect, I would have used Versamark, but it wasn't dark enough. Then I stamped the sentiment in black once to make it stand out. I stamped the fox onto the die cut, then stamped it again onto white cardstock, colored it in with copic markers, cut it out and popped it up onto the die cut (whew longest run on sentence ever lol). To finish the card off, I added some black ribbon at the top of the card, and a few black rhinestones underneath the sentiment.

Merry Christmas

Every year I stress over how much "stuff" I end up putting on my Christmas cards. Because, that little bump from ribbon or a brad seems to jack up the price of postage. Not a big deal, but I like to be able to slap a first class stamp on the envelope and call it good.

Not all of my Christmas cards will be this simple, but they are easy enough that I crank a few out and not feel burnt out by mass production (which I hate). I used some Fabriano water color paper as my card base. I think a simple card looks so classy on that kind of card stock, it makes it feel a little richer. So I stamped my images, colored them in using Copics, then stamped my sentiment. It didn't look right, but by rounding the corners it soften it up a little, then I created some score marks using my Scor-pal. I finished it off my adding a few Want2Scrap rhinestones on either side of the sentiment.

Autumn Blessings

Today, I am sharing a card using the October Ho, Ho's & Holiday Blessings stamp set from Avocado Arts. It has a mix of fall & winter/Christmas images, and since I'm not quite ready to jump full force into Christmas, a fall card it is. Not too mention, I have a bunch of fall & Halloween pattern paper I need to use up. The chipboard and pattern paper are both from Crate paper, so I paper pieced a few of the leaves and applied them to the chipboard. I originally stamped the sentiment onto the pattern paper, but it kind of got lost and was hard to read. So, I thought about it for a few minutes, and re-stamped it onto white card stock, and I like it much better that way.

CPS 237 using Clear Snap & Lawn Fawn

This week Clear Snap is sponsoring the sketch over at Card Positioning Systems. I used the Smooch Pearlized ink to color in the house (lettuce, mocha, plum berry, sweet melon & banana custard), and tree. I have to admit, I was a little scared at first to use these inks. They come in super cute bottles that look like nail polish, then once opened, the coloring brush is kind of like a fine point brush. Once I figured them out (which wasn't hard), I had a lot of fun coloring in the house. The stamps are from a new stamp set from Lawn Fawn called, Happy Haunting.

Starter Tags

Do you ever feel, you just never have enough time? I feel that way all the time! With my children sick the last 3 weeks (now much better), and with Kendall in the hospital for one of those weeks. I really did not have time to do anything but take care of my children. Sometimes, when I want to create something, but really have no direction, and just want to play. I will things that I like to call starter tags. Its kind of like an ATC, but I don't have a set shape or size that I follow everytime. Usually, I will just grab whatever is in reach, and use that. I can use these starter tags on cards, layouts, gift bags, or use them as a tag. They are just little bits of fun to use when I need them.

A few weeks ago (before the sickies hit our house), my son went to one of his best friends birthday. When it comes to birthdays for tweens & teens, I just go with a gift card now (however Jacob didn't think a gift card was enough, so we had to get Pokemon cards too lol). So, I created a fun custom card for a 10 year old boy...bold colors and nothing to foo foo.

The "happy birthday" sentiment is from the Sophie's Sentiments stamp set, then I stamped "josh" using the Quinn's ABC's set (then colored in the letters using blue copic markers). I didn't like all of the colors of the star chipboard, so I colored over them with red & blue Copic markers.

Ornate Ornaments & Making Frosty Friends

Last week was a little nutty (family emergency...everything is better now), so I was unable to post my other cards for the Lawn Fawn inspiration week. Now that things are settled down, and I have a few moments on the computer, I have time to share them.
The first card I used the Ornate Ornaments set, and on the second card I used Making Frosty Friends. Whether you like to color in images or paper piece, or just stamp them the way they are, both sets are very versatile. I have to admit, I loved coloring in that ornament! Plus I can see myself doing a fun winter scene with Say Cheese with the Making Frosty Friends...how cute would that be?!?
Did you know there is less than 100 days until Christmas? So crazy!

Avocado Arts: Happy Halloween

Can you believe that it's September 1st? Here in Florida we are still having 90 degree+ weather, so somewhere along the line, summer zipped on by. I guess it's time for me to start thinking fall/holidays. Kind of scary how fast time flies.

Anyhow, today the Avocado Arts design team is showcasing the September, Thankful for You stamp set. It has images/sentiments for both Halloween and Fall (kind of love that), so you will have multi uses for this set. I created, a card base using the Labels Twenty-Three from Spellbinders, layered it with some My Minds Eye pattern paper, then die cut more MME pattern paper using the Star Circles die set. I paper pieced the pumpkin onto pattern paper, then colored it in using Copic, and did the same thing with the stem. To give the card some dimension, I popped up each layer using foam tape. To finish off the card, I added some natural twine at the top of the card.

CPS 233 using Clearsnap & Lawn Fawn

The sponsor over at CPS this week is Clearsnap. I got to work with some Smooch Spritz, and I actually liked doing something different & getting super inky. What I like about the spritz a little better than other "sprays" is that I had more control over where I would be spritzing ink. Some sprays, you have no idea where ink will land. If you play along with this week's sketch you have a chance to win a prize from Clearsnap (super cool!).

Once, the spritz dried I added some paper (American Crafts & Authentique), then stamped a banner from Lawn Fawn's banneriific set, and added a "boo" sentiment from the Heebie Jeebies set. To finish off the card I added a Jenni Bowlin button (that I have been hoarding forever lol), tied with bakers twine. I followed the CPS sketch #233 for my card.

Avocado Arts: Thankful for You

The September, Thankful for You stamp set from Avocado arts is now available. So today the design team is showcasing cards/projects using this fun fall set. It has cute images, a few background builders, and great sentiments. For my card, I kept it clean and graphic, using the chevron/ric rac background builder, and sentiment paired with some October Afternoon paper. Looking at the card now, I probably should have added some twine, or even another button/bling in one of the corners so that the card "flows" better. But, all in all, I still like the card. I used my favorite color combination (red/yellow), and it will still make a great thank you card.

Lawn Fawn: Turkey Day

It is the last day of sneaks for this Inspiration Week from Lawn Fawn, and today the design team is showcasing the Turkey Day stamp set. For my card, the layout/sketch is fairly simple, but I did incorporate some super cute Amy Tangerine paper from American Crafts. The paper I chose below seemed fallish/masculine, especially with the cool woodgrain pattern. I cut/embossed white cardstock using a Spellbinders Picot Edge Circles die template, stamped the turkey, then colored it in using Copic markers. Before I adhered the die cut down with foam tape, I ran satin ribbon around the panel & tied a bow. To finish off the card, the sentiment was stamped & black rhinestones were added underneath. A lot of times in my cards, you may notice I add three little rhinestones and/or buttons. For me, that "spot" just seems off, so by adding a small embellishment it will complete a visual triangle (not to talk fancy lol...but I don't know how else to explain it).

Lawn Fawn: Harvest Season re-visited

It's day #3 on the Lawn Fawn August Inspiration week, and today the designers are showcasing a few sets that came out last year, Heebie Jeebies & Harvest Season. So half of the designers are playing with the Heebie Jeebies set and the other half are playing with Harvest Season. I am in the half using Harvest Season. This set has a fall/Thanksving theme to it, but you really get creative with it, when you combine it with other Lawn Fawn sets.

When I sat down to create my card, I wanted to use the set in a different way, not shown before. So, I started to go through older sets, and immediately stopped in my tracks when I saw the smiley faces in the On The Mend set. I decided right then and there, that this pumpkin was going to be smiling...it even whispered it to me...true story. (your stamps talk to you right? Whew I was starting to feel a little crazy lol) After the pumpkin was colored in, I inked up the smiley face that is on the tissue box, and stamped it in the center of the pumpkin. To make it look like the leaves are underneath the pumpkin, I masked the pumpkin, then stamped the leaves. The card seemed a little too plain, so I stamped more leaves in Versamark (which is a watermark ink), and created a little border on the bottom.

Lawn Fawn: Heebie Jeebies

Today starts Inspiration Week for Lawn Fawn, and today the Lawn Fawn Design Team, known as the Fawnies are showcasing the Happy Haunting stamp set.

I decided to make a long card (6 x 3 3/4 inches). I originally started out using a cream/ivory cardstock layered on the black, but it looked too stark, so I changed it up and went with kraft. Before, I started stamping, I inked the edges of the kraft cardstock to give it a more dirty/not so clean/kind of distressed look. I stamped the tree, and colored it in with a brown copic marker (E57), then stamped a few leaves onto the tree (orange ink). I love the fence in this set, so I knew I wanted to use the fence somehow, so I stamped the fence in front of the tree, then colored in the tops using a black pen. Below the fence looked weird and kind of bare, so using a C1 & C3 Copic markers I tried to make a sidewalk. It needed something else, so I added a few more leaves on the ground, and a few bats flying around the tree.

The top corner seemed like it need some love, so I paper pieced some fun MME pattern paper, using the Bannerific stamp set, and coloring in one of the ghosts from Happy Haunting and adding it to the middle pennant. Before adhering the kraft panel to the card base, I added some black/white bakers twine, to finish the card off.

One layer card

Did any of you play along with the Dare to Get Dirty challenges on SCS? I think the challenges are fantastic, some make you think and get out of the comfortable box we keep ourselves in. It's fun to stretch yourself. The card below, was a card I created for the 1 layer card challenge... Yep, no extra layers of paper or card stock except for the card base (I kind of actually love one layer cards).

I embossed around the sentiment (Waltzingmouse Stamps) using a Spellbinders die template, and then I cut/embossed the bottom border of the card using some Spellbinders Edgeabilites. To finish the card, I added Want2Scrap heart shaped rhinestones, oh and on some of the swirly parts of the sentiment.

I really am happy with the way this card turned out, I am thinking about making a few more cards similar, then giving them away as a gift set. One can never have too many thank you notes hanging around.

Halloween Adventure

If you are like me, you are wondering to yourself, "summer went by fast!" It is hard to believe that my children start school Tuesday morning. Before I have time to think about it, the holidays are going to be here. So, I'm thinking a little ahead this year. My children are a little older (10 & 15), and I think the days of them dressing up may be over (for the 15yr old for sure lol). My son, may just surprise me, who knows? Here is a cute gift card idea I am thinking about giving my daughter.

This year, I think I might take them to Universal's Halloween Horror nights. I will give them a gift card with the admission ticket, then a little bit of cash to buy some treats, inside of the gift card. Hopefully they like it! I hear it is pretty scary, but so much fun. I'm not even going to lie, I get scared easy, but I love scary movies & getting a little freaked out.

After the gift card was scored & adhered together, it was time to decorate the front. I used the Zipnby to Say Hi stamp set from Avocado Arts, and the September set which is called, Thankful for You. The Avocado Arts Design Team are all showing sneaks from the September set, so make sure to visit their blogs to see what they have created!

CPS 230...Be Unique

Here is my take on this weeks sketch over at CPS. Head on over and play along, this week the sponsor is Flower Soft.

I used the Clear to See stamp set from Lawn Fawn. Paired with some fabulous plaid paper by The Girls Paperie. I know the company is no longer, but I really love that plaid. Plaid for me is timeless, kind of like damask & polka dots. I stamped the glasses onto a Spellbinders Classic Circles die cut, and added pink pearls (Want2scrap) on the edges of the glasses, and stamped the "be unique" sentiment.

I may write my daughter a little note about being true to herself. She will be going into the 10th grade this year, and it is so easy for teenagers to lose themselves trying to seek approval of others. I am really proud of her, and the young lady she is becoming. Just my way of giving her a little attention and positive reinforcement.

For my next card, I used the clouds and helicopter from Denami, then the sentiment from Lawn Fawn. I had asked my husband what I should use as a sentiment (being he is a helicopter pilot), and he said I should use, "you spin me right round baby, right round, like a helicopter baby", I love how he added helicopter to that lyric. He also said, I should use "fly away with me". I settled on the bon voyage sentiment from the Bon Voyage stamp set. Although, his sentiments are quite cute.

August 1st? Holy moly, summer is almost over, and soon my children will be heading back to school. Buck holy moly, I still cannot believe it is August already. Well today, the Avocado Arts crew is posting projects using the August stamp set, Zipnby to Say Hi. It is such a fun, happy set, and is my favorite set so far (if I had to pick a favorite lol).

I used some new (to me) Authentique pattern paper, paired with a label from the Spellbinders Orchard Harvest die template set, and the Classic Petal set.. I really cannot resist woodgrain paper, especially with a pretty floral background on the "b" side. After I stamped the sentiment and image, I filled in the paper airplane with a red Spica Glitter pen, and went over the black with a black Spica Glitter pen. In real life it makes the ink look super glittery and shimmery. To finish off the card I used some Want2Scrap bling and black ribbon.

Zipnby to say Hi

Today I am showing you a fun card I made using the August kit Zipnby to say Hi, stamp set from Avocado Arts. I am also playing along & providing a sample over at SCS with the Dare to Get Dirty challenge #1 (head on over and join the fun!!).

The other Avocado Arts designers are showing off this set as well, so make sure to visit their blogs and say hello!

On this card, I used a few different techniques, so I thought I would share my design process. A few of these inks/paints, I have never used before, so I was a little scared, but I really like my results. It is fun to step out of your "box" every once in a while. Plus I found a few products I really want to use again, and need more colors of!

I started by gathering some supplies:

Avocado Arts stamps, bubble wrap, textured paper, Jenni Bowlin acrylic paint, strong glue, Spellbinders Die Template, Pigment ink, Cosmic Shimmer products, foam tape.

1. Apply red acrylic paint onto bubble wrap, then press down onto textured paper.

2. Take another piece of bubble wrap, and apply Cosmic Shimmer Jet Black Dazzle Paint to it.

3. Apply the bubble wrap to the paper, make sure to press firm, but not too hard to get the paint down.

4. Stamp the road sign & stamp sentiment on the inside, using a pigment ink.

5. Stamp the road way using pigment ink & the car using the same red Jenni Bowlin acrylic paint, let dry.

6. Using Cosmic Shimmer Acrylic Drawing Ink in Silver Sheen & Pearl shine, color in the top part of the road sign. Then take a Spellbinders Die Template to cut/emboss the paper. I used the S4-348 Postage Stamps (the largest die). Cut an extra one for the back side of the card.

7. Score, using a Scor-Pal, 3/4 inch down, on the die cut that will be used for the back of the card.

8. Apply a strong adhesive. For this card I used a Helmar liquid Craft Glue.

9. I stamped the license plate, and sentiment, cut it out, and then colored the inside and outside parts using the Cosmic Shimmer.

10. Adhere the license plate using foam tape, and your card is done.

I had never used the Comic Shimmer products before, and to be honest I was a little afraid to use them. I am okay with inks, but playing with paints is a little out of my league. I LOVED the Jet Black Dazzle Paint! It comes in a cute bottle, and the brush reminds me of a liquid eye liner brush. I had complete control over where the paint went, and was easy to apply. I liked the coverage I got after I laid the bubble wrap down, and once the paint dried, it stayed a bold black. I love that it didn't fade. The acrylic drawing ink, is very, very, shimmery and really makes the project pop (in real life, shimmer is hard to photograph). I plan on getting more colors of both of these paints!

Personalized Notebooks

It is hard to believe summer is almost over, and my children start school in 2 weeks. How on earth will I have a 5th & 10th grader? I just can't wrap my head around that one. My daughter has an especially hard course load this year (so does my son), so we sat down, and I let her go through my pattern paper stash, to re-cover/alter a composition notebook. We made one for one of her really good friends as well.

Kendall, finally settled on some beautiful Crate paper, and picked out some girly Teresa Collins paper for her friend. It just made sense to use some Lawn Fawn stamps to personalize the notebooks for the girls. The larger alphabet set is Quinn's ABC's and the smaller alpha set is the Harold's ABC's set. I also used the Schoolhouse backdrops set too. I love that the Harold's set fit so perfect within the lines!! I colored in the girls names using Copic markers to make the names pop a little more, then accented the letters with a white gel pen.

With all of the school supplies out and on sale at your favorite stores, this is a really quick and simple project to complete. It is also a great way to use up paper you just have sitting around.

I love the fact that my daughter still likes things pretty and personalized :)

A few Lawn Fawn cards

Now that Jess is home, and we are back from vacation, I have had extra time to sit down and play. If any of you own Lawn Fawn stamps, you know how happy these stamps are! That is probably why I love to design for this company, it exudes happiness down to the core.

I noticed my stash of cards getting low, so I am trying to fill my basket of go to cards, so I have that special card just when I need it.

Normally when I create, if I have certain colors out, all of the cards I make will have a similar theme or color scheme going on. I am really drawn to yellows, reds, pinks, corals, & turquoise colors. Maybe it is because I live in Florida? Who knows, but bright cheery colors make me happy, so that is what I am going with.

Sorry for the little blog break. My husband came back from a January-July deployment, and we took off to Disney World for a week with the kids. Bethany Walter, who owns Mady Joe Photography, was there to capture all of the emotion and smiles for Jess' return. Thank you again for all of your support, it means so much.
Here are some of my favorite pictures from our homecoming. I literally could not chose which ones to post...

Avocado Arts August Sneak

Today, the Avocado Arts pit crew is sneaking a little peak of the August stamp set. I have to tell you, when I was sent the first three months of stamps, I was so excited for this set! There are so many elements that are just so cool! Make sure to visit the AA blog, as well as the rest of the designers to check out their sneak peeks.

For my card, I started out with a red card base. Then on the textured card stock, I stamped the road, car and hearts from the August set, then the sentiment is from the July set. To see the last few months sets check them out here.
